Housed in an old school building in Makeevka (Макіївка), Ukraine is an orphanage called Snowdrops, providing care for 80 children. The director is a former orphan, and she works diligently at preparing the children for their life after they outgrow the orphanage.
The furnace that provides warmth for Snowdrops Orphanage is broken and in dire need of repair. World Orphan Project is raising money to repair the furnace, expecting the cost to be $12,000. Unsure of how soon the furnace can be repaired, the children living at Snowdrops need quilts and knitted items to keep them warm.
Quilts For Orphans is partnering with World Orphan Project with the goal of providing quilts and knitted items for the 80 children that live at Snowdrops Orphanage. We will be sending our first shipment of 20 quilts on September 15, and our second shipment on October 6. Our third shipment of quilts and knitted items will be sent on November 9.
Please send your items at least three days before one of these dates to have them sent to Snowdrops Orphanage. The children will be very grateful for your contribution!

There are an estimated 140 million orphans, according to a 2004 UNICEF and UNAIDS report. Some of these orphans live in cold climates, sleeping at night without warm blankets to comfort them. In Ukraine alone, over 100,000 children are orphaned.
